Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is projected to welcome almost 9.4 million travelers from June through August—about a 6.3 percent increase over summer 2025’s 8.8 million guests. July is expected to be PHL’s busiest month of the summer, with an estimated 3.2 million departing and arriving passengers.
“Summer 2026 is one of the most anticipated travel seasons in our history,” said PHL Interim CEO Tracy Borda. “From FIFA World Cup matches, America’s 250th birthday celebration and the MLB All-Star Game to new American Airlines international flights to Prague, Budapest and Santo Domingo, and airline partner Allegiant, we are ready to welcome millions traveling to and from Philadelphia.”
What can PHL’s guests look forward to at the airport this summer? Several new art exhibitions celebrating Philadelphia and 2026 have already been installed in the airport’s terminals, International Arrivals Hall and baggage claims. Soon to arrive is an exhibition between terminals C and D that marks the history of the Philadelphia Union through their jerseys. Guests will also have an opportunity to test their goal scoring and pitching prowess with the return of soccer and baseball pitch simulators during the FIFA World Cup and MLB All-Star Game.
“We’re also pleased to announce our Live Music at PHL program,” said Borda. “Beginning May 14, we will hold the first of these performances at our Terminal B/C food court stage. Live Music at PHL is an initiative of Mayor Parker and we thank her for her leadership in supporting local artists and reminding the public that Philly is the original music city.”
PHL’s guests will also see plenty of improved spaces throughout the airport’s campus, from new landscaping on the Departures Roadway to more renovated restrooms, bright electronic information displays in ticketing and across the airport, and enhanced holdroom seating areas with charging capabilities. Guests also have their choice of more than 150 restaurants and shops, including Founded in Philly favorites like the recently opened Primo Hoagies and Insomnia Cookies and Penn’s Landing Market, which features unique Philly gifts made by local companies.
“Summer 2026 at PHL is going to be exciting—and it can be enjoyed by all, even those who aren’t traveling,” said Borda. “Our Wingmate Pass allows non-ticketed guests to register for a pass that will allow entry into our terminals, whether to escort a loved one to their gate, meet an arriving domestic traveler or just enjoy PHL’s art, food and shops.” Information on the Wingmate Pass program is available at phl.org/wingmate.
Guests are advised to do their homework before heading to the airport.
“Parking garage C is closed for renovations; however, travelers can take advantage of our convenient PHL Reserve parking option and reserve our valet service or a spot in our Economy Lot before their arrival,” said PHL Chief Commercial Officer Kate Sullivan. “Parking can be reserved up to one year before travel and cancelled up to two hours before arrival if plans should change.” Passengers that choose not to reserve parking should allow extra time for locating a spot—the garage closest to their gates may be full. Complete parking information can be found at phl.org/parking.
Other items passengers should review prior to arriving at the airport include:
- Sign up for flight alerts with airlines prior to travel for latest flight status details.
- Check carry-on/checked bag requirements with airlines before packing
- Visit tsa.gov for information about what can be brought through the checkpoints and what needs to be packed into checked bags.
- Prepare to arrive two-and-a-half-to-three hours prior to boarding time for domestic flights and three hours for international flights. Checkpoints are busy, especially early mornings and guests can access all gates by using any checkpoint.
