Get Ready to Let Your Voice be Heard…Employee Survey Countdown

Greetings Department of Aviation employees! While July is a time for vacations and summer travel, here at the Department of Aviation, it is the month we launch the Employee Engagement Survey.

Here are some things you should know

All surveys are 100% confidential – we use an outside firm to conduct the survey and collect responses.
We’re committed to improving – we’re asking questions asked in the previous survey. We want to see where we have improved and where we still have room to grow!

We take feedback seriously – We’ll develop action plans based on the responses and will meet with employees to review our progress. Here’s a recap of engagement activities the department has made since our last survey.
Be on the lookout for the survey to launch. This year, in addition to the online questionnaire, you will have the option to complete the survey by paper. We want to hear from everyone!

GoldPro's Story: An Intern Who Became an Ally

Jackie: An Intern who became an Ally

Temple University psychology major Jacquelyn Robinson interned with the DOA the summer before her sophomore year. She worked in the Purchasing Administration Unit (PAU) and with the DEI team assisting with the 2025 internship program. Jackie joined the GoldPros' monthly meetings her first month with the DOA and became a regular attendee. Deatrice Isaac asked Jackie to share her thoughts about her experience as an ally to women over 40.

1. What have been the most meaningful benefits of building relationships with older women as a younger woman?
The most meaningful benefit has been experiencing what true community feels like. As a younger person, I’m normally caught up in individual growth, focused on personal goals, healing, or simply getting through the day. But being part of GoldPros shifted my perspective. I saw how essential it is to have spaces where people come together. Whether we were discussing important topics, listening to guest speakers, going on outings, or just letting each other vent, those moments taught me that community care is a real and necessary form of wellness. It reminded me that we aren’t meant to carry everything alone. And beyond emotional connection, there was so much wisdom in the room. These women, many of whom are carrying responsibilities I don’t yet have, showed up consistently with grace, love, and honesty.

2. What lessons have you learned from engaging with this community, both personally and as an ally?
I’ve learned how powerful it is to listen and observe with presence. I sat quietly during meetings, not because I didn’t care, but because I understood this space wasn’t about me, it was for the women in the room. That in itself was a lesson: knowing when to step back so others can be seen. I realized allyship isn’t about centering myself or my voice, it’s about learning how to support, uplift others. I’ve also learned the value of consistency, how healing happens not in grand gestures but in showing up, week after week. And finally, I’ve learned that real strength looks like vulnerability, honesty, laughter, venting, and care all wrapped into one.

3. In what ways might these experiences shape how you show up in future personal, professional, or community spaces?
These experiences will stay with me as I move into future roles, especially as a therapist, friend, and member of any community I join. I want to carry forward the sense of warmth and groundedness I felt in GoldPros. Professionally, I hope to create spaces where people feel safe enough to be their full selves. Personally, I want to continue valuing intergenerational wisdom and seek out community. And in any group I’m a part of, I want to help build a culture where people feel held. I’ve learned that healing doesn’t always come from fixing things, but from having others beside you when things feel unfixable. This community taught me what it means to be held, and that’s what I want to offer others, too.

City of Philadelphia Ethics Training

Beginning this year, the City's Board of Ethics' new training regulation requires that all existing City employees participate in ethics training every five years, in addition to their initial training upon hire. In order for all employees to be in compliance, there is a five-year training rollout to slowly stagger everyone's participation. The schedule is based on an employee's start year with the City.

The DOA Training & Development unit will contact employees who will need to complete their ethics training for compliance. To register and to view the staggered schedule, click here for the for the City's Ethics Zoom trainings registration site.
