PHL Launches AccessPHL to Help Every Traveler Navigate their Journey

The City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation recognizes Disability Pride Month by introducing AccessPHL, a new online resource designed to make sure every traveler feels welcomed and supported and can access additional assistance to plan their journeys through Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). Disability Pride Month is an observance that marks the anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and highlights the importance of creating accessible, inclusive spaces for everyone.

AccessPHL serves as a central hub where travelers can easily find information about the airport's accessibility programs, services, and amenities before they arrive. Resources include the wheelchair request system, TSA Cares, Hidden Disabilities Program sunflower lanyards, the AIRA app for visibility and hearing assistance, the Wingmate Pass for passenger escorts or to practice airport visits, new elevator maps, and ADA compliance checks conducted at concessions before they open. By bringing these resources together in one convenient location, AccessPHL makes it easier for travelers to understand the support available to them and navigate PHL with greater ease and independence.

For example, TSA Cares provides additional support for travelers with disabilities, medical conditions, and other circumstances that may require assistance during the security screening process. The AIRA app for vision connects travelers who are blind or vision issues with trained visual interpreters, offering real-time navigation assistance throughout the airport.

AccessPHL reflects PHL's ongoing commitment to creating an accessible and welcoming travel experience for all passengers. “By continuing to expand accessibility resources and improve airport services, PHL aims to make every traveler feel supported, informed, and comfortable from arrival to departure,” said Department of Aviation Chief Strategy Officer Cassie Schmid. PHL launched AccessPHL at a press conference on July 21 nearby the new accessible assistance areas that include larger, more visible signage and additional new seating for guests who are waiting for wheelchair service.
