Let’s travel back in time to April 2013. Spirit Airlines was just taking off at PHL, offering passengers three daily departures to Dallas (DFW), Las Vegas (LAS) and Myrtle Beach (MYR), with an average of 534 daily seats. 

Fast forward 10 years—Spirit now serves 17 destinations from PHL (including Cancun, Montego Bay and Punta Cana), with 19 average daily departures and 3,533 daily seats.

Oakland, Ca., is the latest addition to Spirit’s Philadelphia roster. PHL and airline representatives celebrated the flight with a gate event on May 5.

Safety is of the upmost priority at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). One of the ways the airport remains prepared for emergencies and maintains the highest safety standards is through upgrading the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) unit's fire safety training equipment to the latest industry technology. These critical facility upgrades are part of PHL’s multi-billion dollar capital development program. 

Piedmont – American Airlines Lobby Agent Tamika Lucas recently received the “Impression Makers” award from Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program. This award recognizes customer-facing employees who provide direct customer service to passengers.

MarketPlace PHL Concourse Supervisor Eric McMillan was recently recognized in the “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work” category of Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) Employee Recognition Program. This distinction acknowledges employees who create a positive guest experience through service and delivery while collaborating with other organizations.    

In celebration of National Volunteer Week (April 16-22), the Department of Aviation is highlighting the volunteer and outreach work that the airport does in local schools and youth organizations. The airports are committed to engaging with students to expose them to a variety of career paths and inspire an interest in aviation!

A collaboration between the hunger relief nonprofit Philabundance and PHL Food & Shops has recently reached a milestone in donating more than 100,000 pounds of soon-to-expire food from airport concessions to Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) neighbors in need. In total, the joint effort between Philabundance and PHL merchants has resulted in 108,825 pounds of food and approximately 141,500 meals donated, as of March 2023.

Plants in the interior of Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) are not just decorative elements, but also a natural way to purify air in the passenger terminals. Therefore, caring for passengers and creating a comfortable environment includes landscaping inside the airport.

PHL’s Guest Experience Department (GX) leads the (PHL) Volunteer Navigator Program with over 80 volunteers. Some volunteers are retirees, highschoolers and several are flight attendants who love the aviation industry and volunteer when they “touch-down” at PHL.
