In 2023, Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) welcomed 28.1 million travelers, many from around the world. To enhance the travel experience for guests that do not speak English as their primary language, PHL is introducing two tools to assist passengers as they navigate the airport.

The City of Philadelphia Department of Aviation and its airline partners have agreed to a three-year Airport-Airline Use and Lease Agreement for Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE) that includes options for two one-year extensions. The agreement, which was approved by City Council on June 22 and signed by Mayor Jim Kenney on June 28, is effective July 1, 2023, and governs airline use of the City’s facilities at PHL.

Standard & Poor’s (S&P) has assigned an “A+” rating with a stable outlook on Philadelphia International Airport's (PHL) general airport revenue bonds. This is up two notches from the “A-“ rating PHL received in 2021. PHL has approximately $1.6 billion of debt outstanding, consisting of $1.5 billion of airport revenue bonds. Most of the airport's debt is fixed rate.

Philabundance Group

A collaboration between the hunger relief nonprofit Philabundance and PHL Food & Shops has recently reached a milestone in donating more than 100,000 pounds of soon-to-expire food from airport concessions to Philadelphia International Airport’s (PHL) neighbors in need. In total, the joint effort between Philabundance and PHL merchants has resulted in 108,825 pounds of food and approximately 141,500 meals donated, as of March 2023.

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) announced that it will be welcoming a Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club. The announcement was made by PHL, in collaboration with MarketPlace PHL, Chase, and Airport Dimensions. PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia’s role in Operation Allies Welcome officially ended on March 1, when the federally-led mission returned to Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Virginia. From August 28, 2021-March 1, 2022, Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) welcomed 29,713 individuals evacuated from Afghanistan on 336 flights (in and outbound, live and ferry, commercial and military).

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) welcomed more than 19.6 million passengers during calendar year 2021, an increase of almost 66 percent over 2020, when the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic devastated the aviation industry.
